Letter from Dean Molgaard
Nearly one year ago, The Raptor Center (TRC) embarked on its search for its next Executive Director and Redig Endowed Chair. With great professional admiration, I am pleased to welcome Dr. Jonathan Sleeman to lead TRC into its bright and exciting future.
The essential work carried out every day by TRC - from clinical care to global research - is fundamental to the College of Veterinary Medicine’s (CVM) mission: to build a globally diverse and inclusive community dedicated to improving the health of animals, people, and the environment through education, research, and service.
I would like to thank CVM leadership for conducting such a successful search. Dr. Sleeman joins us with a deep wealth of expertise in the One Health space and a demonstrated commitment to research and outreach. His leadership and passion will bring TRC to new heights.
Additionally, my sincere gratitude goes to Lori Arent for her exceptional service as interim executive director. Her focused dedication and seamless leadership ensured TRC continued to thrive through its 50th anniversary year. The unique and palpable passion of TRC staff and volunteers is truly inspiring.
I look forward to embarking on this next chapter with the entire TRC team and welcome you to join us on this exciting journey.

Letter from Lori Arent
It is a gift to come to work each day and celebrate so many success stories surrounding raptor care, education, and conservation. We often gauge the success of our work through the perspectives of others. We see our efforts reflected in the eyes of the raptor patients we care for and the raptor ambassadors who capture our hearts. Our impact is also evident in the gratitude of the public who help us rescue raptors in need, and the passion of a community dedicated to protecting raptors for generations to come.
One perspective we seldom share is that of the people working tirelessly behind the scenes. Every day, our staff and volunteers show up with unwavering dedication, ready to give their all to these birds and tackle whatever challenges come their way. What I can always count on is a team that shows up with a spirit of support, collaboration, and a willingness to learn from one another.
In this issue, we want to share with you a day at TRC through the eyes of the people who make this a center of excellence and a beacon of hope. Experience a day in the life of our clinic, shadow the work of our education team, get to know the support staff, and meet our next executive director, Dr. Sleeman.
I welcome you to share in my gratitude for the people who power TRC’s commitment to protect and celebrate the remarkable, fragile, and vital world of raptors.
– Lori Arent, MS,
Interim Director of The Raptor Center
