Juvenile Raptor Webinar Series

Dates: Wednesdays at 6-7:30 PM CT from March 4th to 25th

Beginning with the unique medical needs of pediatric raptors, participants will learn how to assess, treat, and safely handle young patients. The series then explores strategies for reuniting and wild-fostering chicks based on species' natural history and developmental milestones. When reunites are not possible, presenters will outline best practices for raising raptors in human care, including appropriate diet and housing, transitioning to self-feeding, and preventing mal-imprinting. The final session focuses on preparing juveniles for release—evaluating flight capability and prey drive, providing them with opportunities to physically condition their muscles using exericse physiology principles, heightening their prey drive by exposing them to live prey, and choosing suitable release methods such as a hard release or hacking (soft release). Together, these sessions equip rehabilitators with the knowledge and skills needed to support the healthy development of juveniles and their successful return to the wild.
